More than half of people who are told they have cancer will now live ten years or more. However, cancer still presents a huge health challenge. It is the biggest cause of death from illness or disease in every age group.
Our Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Local Authorities, health care providers (in particular University Hospitals of Leicester - UHL), Primary Care Networks and charities have come together to think about what our priority areas for improvement will be, putting the patient at the centre of all that we do. We are building on the excellent work already in place and recognise that more must be done so that people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland(LLR) can live long and healthy lives. It aims to improve the experience of patients living with cancer, with more treatments being successful and patients living longer.
By working together with neighbouring areas, we also aim to make sure that our local patients who are receiving treatment outside of the LLR area also receive the best cancer care.
Across Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland our vision is to:
1. Support prevention, with the aim of fewer people getting cancer at all
2. Make sure that patients are diagnosed early
3. Make sure that patients receive high quality and timely treatment
4. Ensure the best possible experience for people living with and beyond cancer
