Children and adolescent mental health

Overview

Children and young people need to have access to the right help at the right time through all stages of their emotional and mental health development. In Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, one in 10 children and young people will have a mental health disorder and one in 20 children and young people will have a conduct disorder. Health and social care need to work with many other agencies such as education, police, housing and justice, ensuring that organisational boundaries are not barriers to care.

Future plans

Our plans include:

  • Working across agencies to transform our children and young people’s emotional, mental health and wellbeing services
  • Improving access to the right service to meet children and young people’s needs and reduce waiting times
  • Increasing the skills and capacity of our workforce to meet service needs
  • Beginning development of a new child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) unit.
