Overview
Leicester has a young population and the city is seeing major increases in the number of children and young people living here. Life expectancy in Leicester is below the England average, with significant differences in how long people live according to where they live - many of the patterns for this are laid down in childhood. Children’s health and wellbeing is not only important as a goal in itself but is key to improving the overall health of an entire area. We also know that having a baby is now safer than 10 years ago. Across maternity, neo-natal and children and young people’s health, across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, we know we can also do better.
