Overview
Nationally six out of every 100 admissions and re-admissions to hospital are caused by avoidable adverse reactions to medicines. Only 16% of patients take their medicines as prescribed. Medicines management looks at the value which medicines deliver, making sure they are clinically-effective and cost-effective. We want people to maximise the benefits from taking their medicines, take them correctly, avoid taking unnecessary medicines, reduce wastage and improve safety.
Future plans
Our plans include:
-
Standardising polices, where possible, on medicines across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
-
Reducing any medicines waste in relation to repeat prescriptions
-
Improving liaison with patients in care homes
-
Developing a new medicines safety strategy.
