Overview
We all know that prevention is better than cure. We also know that we need to move from a system that detects and treats illnesses to one that predicts and prevents poor health and puts people back in charge of their own health. This workstream is concerned with both health promotion and ill-health prevention. Habits such as smoking and harmful use of alcohol are among the most significant risk factors for disease in England – costing numerous lives and the NHS millions of pounds.
Future plans
Our plans include:
- Supporting people’s ability to self-care
- Developing an inpatient stop smoking service
- Making sure all health and care staff are able to provide basic advice about healthy lifestyles
- Promoting healthy workplaces across the public sector.
