As preparations for Christmas continue, people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are being advised to take note of opening hours for GP practices, pharmacies, dentists and urgent care centres over the festive period.
Most GP practices will close at their normal time on Friday 24th December, and reopen on the morning of Thursday 27th December. They close again at their normal time on Friday 28th December and reopen on the morning of Monday 31st December. They will then be closed on New Year’s Day and reopen on the morning of Wednesday 2nd January.
It should be noted that though a number of East Leicestershire & Rutland and West Leicestershire practices will close their doors at 4pm on 24th and 31st December, patients can still call the practice telephone number and speak to a clinician for health care provision. Please check with your practice regarding their opening hours.
A full list of pharmacy opening hours can be found here.
Health leaders across Leicestershire have confirmed that care will be available for people who need an urgent appointment over the festive period. Urgent care hubs across the region are offering increased access to healthcare at weekends, bank holidays and evenings, including when your own GP practice is closed or unable to find you an appointment. This enables us to maintain the highest standards of care, treating people quicker than ever before, for a range of minor illnesses and injuries”.
If you are registered with a Leicester City GP practice, but are unable to be seen, you can get an appointment at one of the four healthcare hubs, where you can see a GP or prescribing nurse, just as you would with your usual GP practice. The hubs are open during the evenings, weekends and bank holidays and appointments can be booked up to 48 hours in advance on 0116 366 0560. Further information can be found here.
For people living in East Leicestershire and Rutland, urgent care centres are open throughout the Christmas and New Year period. You will be seen by an experienced nurse, without an appointment. Opening hours and contact details can be found here.
West Leicestershire residents can access services during the festive period by calling NHS 111 who will direct you to the right care for your symptom i.e. a GP, urgent care centre or selfcare advice. In addition, walk-in services are available at Loughborough Urgent Care Centre which is open 24/7 including bank holidays. Appointments can be made through NHS 111.
