Building Better Hospitals for the Future
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
We want to invest £450 million to transform acute and maternity services at Leicester’s Hospitals. Our proposals include moving acute care to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital and improvements including:
- The first dedicated single-site children’s hospital in the East Midlands and a new maternity hospital – both at the Leicester Royal Infirmary
- Two ‘super’ intensive care units with 100 beds in total, almost double the current number
- A major planned care treatment centre at Glenfield Hospital
- Modernised wards, operating theatres and imaging facilities
- Additional car parking and welcome centres
We propose to keep some non-acute services at Leicester General Hospital campus including:
- Diabetes centre
- Stroke recovery service with beds
- Potential development of a primary urgent treatment centre, observation, outpatient and imaging facilities and a midwifery-led unit relocated from Melton Mowbray
