We want to see improved access to mental health services across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and improvements in the mental health and wellbeing of our population. This enhanced level of care should put mental health at the same level of importance as physical health (parity of esteem). We want to see support provided at an earlier stage, helping people manage their conditions in primary care and the community rather than having to go to hospital wherever possible.
Our plans include:
Increasing access to ‘talking therapies’ in the community
Better supporting the work of crisis teams
Helping people with mental health problems avoid the need for hospital admissions and reducing the time they spend in hospital if they are admitted
Increasing people’s personal resilience and the support available, and reducing the rates of suicide
Delivering physical health checks for people with severe mental illness.
